Why a Superstructure

A box-tube frame mounts on top of the drivetrain to carry the rest of the robot.

  • Subsystems bolt onto this upper frame.
  • A real example: 973's 2022 robot.
  • Goal: build the box on top of your existing drivetrain.

SIDE LAYOUT SKETCH

Start with a side layout sketch — the skeleton the frame follows.

  • Start by continuing the side profile sketch you created during the sketch basics lesson.

Model From the Layout

Sketch on the cross-tube face, not a default plane, and Project the layout lines in.

  • Use Project (P) to pull the layout edges into your new sketch.
  • Build the box tubes off those projected lines.
  • Now editing the layout moves the whole frame.
