SKETCHING FROM SCRATCH

In this lesson, you will learn all the basics to sketching and all the tools you will use

  • Start a Sketch on a plane and draw a rectangle.
  • Dimensions set sizes and distances; constraints set relationships.
  • The origin is your anchor — tie geometry back to it.

Step 1Now let's learn the basic sketch tools. Start by creating a sketch, found in the solid tab under "Create"

Two Ways to Lock a Sketch

Dimensions
  • Set an exact distance or size
  • e.g. 4.25 in between rails
  • Each one removes a degree of freedom
Constraints
  • Define a relationship, no number
  • Horizontal, Equal, Symmetric, Coincident
  • One constraint often replaces several dimensions

EXERCISE: SKETCH A SIDE LAYOUT FOR A DRIVETRAIN

Start a new sketch and create some shapes

  • Create a 8x2x1 box tubing
  • Create a 2" radius circle and 1/4" thickness
  • Lastly, do your best to recreate this skech using the tools we learned about
